MICROVENTING / MICROPERFORATING WALLCOVERINGS
Vinyl wallcoverings in industrial, commercial and residential applications are initially non-perforated. The microperforating/microventing allows these materials to breathe without spoiling the asthetics of the material. The microperforations are so small that they do not spoil the look of the product to the naked eye. There is no disturbance to the astheics of the texture, coloration or pattern. So, why microperforate?
In areas where there is high humidity or condensation concerns, or even if the material is subject to direct moisture, non-perforated materials can trap moisture behind them, setting up ideal conditions for the growth of mildew and mold. Mold and mildew can not only comprimise the integrity of the adhesive holding the wallcovering to the wall, but is also a severe health hazard.
Micro-venting / Micro-perforating tooling pierces tiny perforations in the wall covering material, and when it is applied to the wall, allows airflow, passing moisture to the outside of the wallcovering so it can drain or evaporate. Various hole sizes and hole densities are available, with some being considered standard in the industry. The results can be easily checked with a permebility tester and standard moisture detection testing (both of which are avialable with devices available from Stewarts of America).
